“The difference between a broken community and a thriving one is the presence of women who are valued” ~ Michelle Obama

‘community over competition’, ‘we’re in this together’, ‘we rise by lifting others’ – we’ve all heard these sayings before right? It’s easy for us to repeat these common social phrases but it’s entirely another thing to actually do what you preach. Building a brand and business that is entirely built on helping other women feel supported, understood and empowered is what these two beautiful women have done.

I’d like you all to meet Liat and Carolina the masterminds behind Momjo. Two women who have come together to help moms find their mojo, making us laugh our way through motherhood and all other women’ish stuff!

We had the opportunity to chat with Liat & Carolina and learn some more about their “Momjo

Momjo- how did it all start and why? Tell us the passion behind it all.

Our Momjo journey began in 2016 during one of the highest low points of our lives. After each of our third children were born (3 weeks apart from each other), we each had every single reason to count our lucky stars. We headed back to the gym to get back in shape and after downloading a popular Instagram trainer’s workout app, we committed to burpee’ing, planking and squatting our way back to our pre-pregnancy bodies. But for some reason, as we kept shedding pounds and calories, we weren’t gaining the fulfillment we were seeking. Our then present selves didn’t feel whole. Something else was missing.

One early October morning, during one of our all-too-long and all-too-frequent water breaks at the gym, we happened to bump into a big, burly and intimidating idea: What if we made YouTube videos? With very little knowledge of what awaited us on the other side of that decision, we took on the challenge the same way we had approached our baby pregnancy weight: head on.

As we threw around ideas for our big project, there was a single, overriding concept that stood out above the rest. If we were feeling that something was “missing” from our busy lives, then other moms must be feeling it too. So, our desire to rediscover our mojo became the core focus for our video and “mompreneurial” goals.

We picked the name “Momjo” because we realized that our mission to inject some MOJO into MOM and  educate mamas on what “finding your MOMJO” means– and how important it truly is!

Happy mom = happy family. Simple as that.

Finding your Momjo is not just about excelling in your career– it’s about finding those elements in your daily life that make you feel alive and excited about waking up in the morning. A hobby, a way to give back, a job, a volunteering gig – something that fills you up with joy and purpose.

For us, we are finding our Momjo by making videos that inspire, empower and entertain mamas on their path to focusing a LOT more on themselves and their dreams.

What’s the one thing you love most about each other that you’ve never actually told one another?

Liat: Easy for me to answer this one – there are two things I love most about Carolina. One is that she can eat as much as I can (never thought I would meet my match) as she shares my absolute passion for food!

The second is that she is the ultimate side-kick! Whether we are out at an event, working around the kitchen table or traveling together around the world – she brings the level of fun, laughter and spunk to an all-time high!

Carolina: Liat is one of the most caring people I’ve ever met. As a friend, she’s an incredible listener and confidante who also happens to be detail oriented and generous. She has a knack for always finding a way to put a smile on the faces of the people she loves. Having a tough day? She takes your child for ice cream. Sleep deprived? She shows up with coffee. Nothing escapes her and that is way too special.

What do you think is one of the most common misconceptions about being a content creator or social influencer?

We think people underestimate or simply aren’t aware of the amount of time that goes into content creation. The number of hours to plan, prepare, film, edit, script, write, post, research etc. that goes into what we do is really mind-blowing.

Our minds never turn off – it truly is a 24/7 job, over and above everything else we do.

What do you love most about this online community that you have both built?

We love the real connections we make with people. Whether it’s in person, through networking, on DMs, or on our feed – we really LOVE the people side of our community and are very grateful to have an impact in some small way on someone’s day, and also to get to meet and network with some of the most amazing, inspiring and awesome people along the way!

What one piece of advice would you give to an aspiring content creator/influencer/blogger?

Good question. In the first year or so of our journey, we keep thinking “if only we can crack the formula”, then all will be smooth sailing. There simply is no formula, cause there is no other content creator like you. We say go out there and get as much advice and input as you can – from anyone and everyone that’s willing to help, do as much research as you can as often as you can – BUT take it for what its all worth and keep it all in perspective. Keep trying, keep growing and give yourself the time and permission to find your way through the ups and downs.

Work -life- balance: Does it exist? How do you make it all work?

We say it takes a village to find your momjo. We get help when we need to – both for our business and for our families. We work late hours and early mornings and since we have each other to rely on, the other one steps up when needed. We really are lucky to have each other

Favorite quote and why?

“It always seems impossible, until its done.” Nelson Mandela

We love this quote because its so simple, yet so darn true.

Whats next? What can we expect to see from Momjo?

Currently we are very focused on creating valuable, fun and inspirational videos for our YouTube channel MOMJO while continuing to grow our amazing community on social media (@findingmomjo on FB/IG). We have a bunch of big dreams on our to-do list and we trust in this process that it will all work out the way its meant to! We always said that as long as we are having fun, we will continue mixing this Momjo Journey. #watchthisspace for more Momjo madness
